Since the arrival of the Glazers at Old Trafford in May 2005, Fergie has witnessed his squad diminishing, as more than 30 players have been either loaned out or sold off.

The United faithful were informed that the Glazers were allocating a reported £25 million to Sir Alex Ferguson each season to strengthen the squad but this has failed to materialise. It may not matter to some folk, because United sit with a 6 point lead over nearest rivals Chelsea, but Chelsea have strength in reserve whereas United have not.

The Glazers have stripped United's playing squad in order to save on finances, even though they have received around £90 million in ticket revenue since arriving at Old Trafford in May 2005. This lack of investment in the team has led to Fergie being placed under extreme pressure to field a consistent team of strength and depth in order to remain contenders for the Premiership and for further progression in the Champions League.

While the Glazer propaganda machine has been busy perpetrating to the media, and supporters how they have been in the market for numerous high profile players, they have failed to land the players they have been chasing because they cannot afford to make realistic offers for such high profile names.

Before the Glazers took over it was very rare for Sir Alex Ferguson not to get the player that he wanted and almost never because of lack of funds. The word is that Fergie is far from happy about having to face up to accepting second best in the transfer market and seeing his squad evaporate in front of his eyes.

It is believed that a frustrated Fergie asked David Gill to fight a very strong case with the Glazers in order to resolve the visible weaknesses being brought about by the Glazers' brutal policy of asset stripping of the squad, of sending players out on loan in order to save on costs.

An internal source within the Club claims that Gill and Fergie, finally got the seal of approval from the Glazers during their recent visit to Manchester, for a quick short term solution which came in the shape of signing Henrik Larsson from Helsingborgs. It’s a makeshift solution and could mean that Fergie will not be able to land Torres. The Larsson deal could be the only spending the Glazers are willing to engage in for the January transfer window.

It is also expected that the Glazers only intend to dip their feet into the transfer market in the summer of 2007 but only if they can employ their revolving door transfer policy they put in place last summer, where players can only be bought in using the transfers fees of those players on their way out. With so few players left in the squad, at least one of the star players must be sold if any new players are to be bought in. Many are speculating that the next one out could be Ronaldo, Massimo Moratt is ready to offer big bucks to the Glazers for Ronaldo to don the Inter Milan shirt for the 2007/08 season.

Meanwhile, Henrik Larsson will begin his three month contract with United in January, at a fraction of the cost of the reported transfer kitty being allegedly served up by the Glazers for Fergie. It is hoped that the 35year old will be a boost for the team, in order to give either Rooney or Saha a rest so that the players can be fully revived as the season turns the corner onto the home straight and heads for closure.

There are suggestions that Larsson could remain a Manchester United player until the end of the season but only if there is a space left for him by injuries and only if he scores goals.
