Following soon in the wake of Bryan Glazer's infamous "the fans have accepted us" statement on US local radio, Manchester United's owners in name only arrived in town today for United's first game of their English Premier League campaign.

After seeing the Reds beat probable relegation contenders, Fulham 5-1 (only one point for a goal in this game Bryan) the Glazer entourage decamped to the V and A Marriot Hotel, opposite Granada studios. They were probably looking forward to some rest and recuperation following their transatlantic flight in a private jet. They were instead evacuated from the hotel shortly afterwards because a fire alarm went off. The fire service attended and the Glazer party were escorted away by part of the squad of about 25 police officers that were also in attendance. This move may have been a precaution taken in view of the unusually large number of people that were in the hotel bar and grounds at the time.

The Glazers' only previous experience of the inside of a GMP police van was on June 29th 2005, when they paid their first visit to Old Trafford.

In another unrelated incident, a group believed to be made up of Manchester United fans were refused entry to the joint AIG/Manchester United conference being held at the Raddison.

AIG are Manchester United's new shirt sponsors and paid $1.6 billion dollars in February 2006 to settle charges of accounting fraud filed by the State of New York.

More details on both these stories as they become available.
